**JOB TITLE:** Patient Care Unit Assistant
**LOCATION:** Lewistown Hospital
**DEPARTMENT:** Observation Unit
**WORK SCHEDULE:** Rotation
**WORK TYPE:** Part Time
Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties and/or direct patient care activities, depending on the need of the unit. The performance of these tasks in an efficient and timely manner is essential to enhance the care team's ability to provide quality care. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned clinical area.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Reports directly to the Operations Manager.
**COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:**
Demonstrates basic math skills.
Demonstrates the ability to keep current with unit and organizational communication, i.e., read email, read minutes, bulletin boards, attends staff meetings, and performance improvement activity.
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively by utilizing good verbal and written communication skills, which include courteous and confident behavior and demonstration of proper telephone etiquette.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively by utilizing good communication skills, which include courteous, tactful, respectful and non-aggressive behavior.
Demonstrates ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrates basic computer skills, efficient navigation in a Windows environment, passwords and security and use of basic browser and email functionality. Accesses the Info web and internet, uses basic browser functionality, and understands policy on Internet usage.
Demonstrates the ability to compose, send and read emails, understands email functionality and conventions related to replying.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of role orientation and competencies required. Continuing in-services and education programs required.
BLS certification preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
**WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
